Multimedia use in the classroom.   Before reading the article An exploratory study on K-12 teachers
the use of technology in multimedia in the classroom, I thought multimedia was everything teachers
are using in classroom; the computers, the software everything we're using in the classroom.
I quickly learned that they are broken down into two different categories. Technology is the hardware
such as desktop computers laptops notebooks Smart Boards mimeos clickers iPods tablets Etc.
Multimedia is everything that you do with the hardware such as PowerPoints, YouTube ,Prezi,
Google Docs, flipgrid etc.
It used to be that we would go to the library media Specialist or Librarian to check out our
equipment to use in the classroom thing such as an Elmo a film strip projector a projector these
different types of equipment then to use in our classroom and help enhance the learning. Now we
have most of equipment in our classrooms already depending on the district you teach in and the
money that's your district has. Now it's just a matter of learning how to use that technology to help
enhance the learning of your students.
According to the international Society for technology in education (ISTE) There are five areas
in which educators need to be knowledgeable in in order to meet the needs of their students for
21st century skills.  This is where the hard part comes in, teachers need to be knowledgeable in
all these areas in an ever-changing world of multimedia within education. The tough part is once
teachers learn how to use one type of multimedia something new comes out or changes that is
better. it's very difficult I feel as an educator to keep up with the multimedia which changes so quickly.
The educational field with the use of Technology seems to be changing daily. The use of flipped
classrooms is also a new trend. I kind of feel like every time I learn something it gets old and outdated
within a year. I'm finding that as I am using tools in the classroom or multi-media that a lot of the times
my students have to help me learn how to use it properly and show me. This then makes it a very
easy-going environment and or similar to a flipped classroom as far as the learning goes in the
classroom. This can be one positive or upside of the changing technology. Children learn to become
flexible and realize that everybody is always learning no matter their age or who they are. This is
sometimes how I feel every day in my classroom.
