So After reading my first article for class and getting the APA citing done correctly, I went back to the article to start my summary and lost the article... couldn't find it anywhere. So I need some techy advise for the future so this does not happen again. With that in mind, it was a long article and being that we all have busy lives, I chose not to find a another one to to read. So this is all my memory today. The article was basically talking about all the best tools for a the educational field. The article is 8 years old, so it was saying "10 years into a new century we are still working on finding the best tools to accommodate the learners of the 21 century." I found this kind of interesting being that one of the tools the article discussed was Google docs. Our district just started using google district wide 3 years ago. So it seems to me Ed Tech is similar to that of phones, cars and electronics as soon you buy something it gets replaced with better more upgraded features within months. So our district was a bit behind, but it does seems to still be quite useful. YAY, I found the article again...
The number one tool on the list was using a blog. Again, I found this interesting because this is my first time using a blog, and it was the way to go according to this article. It's believe to still be a great tool for the classroom. Simply for the reason we are all using it now, in this platform you're able communicate with colleagues and learn from each other instantly. Another reason is was so popular 8 years ago and was in the number one spot was for the communication process with students and parents. Although, I feel there have been many materials that are much easier to use and have taken the place of a blog. For parent communication, homework assignments, giving a receiving comments on learning. There are many LMS and apps like Classdojo that I think are more receptive and easier to use than a blog, but that's my opinion. The second best tool was stated as social networking, while this is great for adults, it really is hard to to use this platform in a school due to privacy laws with children.
The third best item 8 years ago was the webinar. I also feel that is quite out dated as well, especially after learning about the tool we are going to use in this class to conduct our research Google meets. I really don't hear of people using Webinars that much.
So the article was interesting especially because it was a little old, and it was neat to see the items that are now "has beens." There were a few items that were talked about that I am not familiar with. They could be items that are long gone due to fact that this article is old, or that they are still reaching their peak. This would be a good topic for class, because I'm curious if they are still around, items like Slide Rocket and School Fusion. Last but not least was Twitter. The article discuss how this is such a great tool for once again that collaboration of adults and for this kind of purpose..... although again, I have just started using this tool due to this class. So I'm behind the times on this one.
So in conclusion, the article gave me something to think about and items to discuss in class, as to what's hot and what not in Educational Technology.
