Measuring, evaluating effective media use

Romrell, D., Kidder, L. C., & Wood, E. (2014). The SAMR Model as a Framework for Evaluating mLearning. Journal Of Asynchronous Learning Networks , 18 (2), Measuring, evaluating effective media use So as Educators we all seem to be in the same boat. Use technology in your classrooms. Be creative when using technology in your classrooms. Use technology, use technology, use technology. So this can be a little overwhelming for some teachers especially those who have been in the profession for a while, let's be honest or a little older like myself. I've been teaching math and reading the kids for 25 years now and now I'm told I need to use technology.   I really feel that some of the stuff that I teach can still be done the way I used to do it without having to use technology. I'll be honest it's taken a while to get to this point of being able to navigate on a Chromebook, using Google, learning how to grade on my Chromebook, learning how to take attendance...

Student Engagement with Multimedia

References McDermott, P., & Gormley, K. A. (2016). Teachers' Use of Technology in Elementary Reading Lessons. Reading Psychology, 37(1), 121-146. Student Engagement with multimedia has come a long way from the 70s when most of our multimedia consisted of print, newspapers, magazines, books microfiche. As a society we also dabbled in a few more items such as  flimstrips, flimprojection, televison movies and videos.     Today there is a vast array of multimedia that students are using.  They also can get the information with quickness and ease which is much different than the 70’s. The forms of media being used today are vast in comparison to that of 40 years ago.  Today's students are using technology to produce items such as podcast, blogs, presentations using web based programs and numerous apps that help them learn and grow. The student engagement that students have is so vast and changing daily. ...

Multimedia use in the classroom

References Martin, F., & Carr, M. L. (2015). An Exploratory Study on K-12 Teachers' Use of Technology and Multimedia in the Classroom.  Journal Of Educational Technology ,  12 (1), 7-14. Multimedia use in the classroom.   Before reading the article An exploratory study on K-12 teachers the use of technology in multimedia in the classroom , I thought multimedia was everything teachers are using in classroom; the computers, the software everything we're using in the classroom. I quickly learned that they are broken down into two different categories. Technology is the hardware such as desktop computers laptops notebooks Smart Boards mimeos clickers iPods tablets Etc. Multimedia is everything that you do with the hardware such as PowerPoints, YouTube ,Prezi, Google Docs, flipgrid etc.        It used to be that we would go to the library media Specialist or Librarian to check out our equipment to use in the cla...
Garcia, E., & Hoang, D. (2015). Positive Behavior Supports: Using Class Dojo as a   Token Economy Point System to Encourage and Maintain Good Behaviors. Measuring the Success of and EdTech Program When measuring the success of an Ed Tech program you have to use the program for a long period time to be able to measure any success. With that in mind, and since I'm not so tech-savvy I once again must go back to ClassDojo. I really feel that this tool has been a great tool to help me with my classroom management. After doing my key assessment presentation and paper I have found out that there is a lot of research that has been done on ClassDojo.  With  just the little bit of research that I did read, I found that the researchers all had positive things to say about the effects of ClassDojo in the classroom.  “ With an education edifice in desperate need of structure and organization, Educators should use behavior management systems that can help them...
References Morones, A. (2014). Snow Days Turn Into E-Learning Days for Some Schools.  Education Week ,  33 (20), 6-7. How can technology be used to eliminate snow days?  Do you think this would be a good thing? As stated in the article "Snow Days Turn into E-Learning Days for Some Schools" the flexibility with e-learning days is just starting to catch on.  Of the State of Ohio's  614 regular school districts in 95 districts submitted a plans for e-learning days in 2014.   They are continuing to get more everyday.  This seems to be then rage that may over take the country.  At least in those areas affected by harsh weather conditions that include lots of snow and brutal temperatures in the zero digits. Districts from Illinois to Virginia - and now in states farther south like Alabama and Georgia have lost regular school days.   Instead of then having to make the days up in the Spring or for ...
References Demski, J. (2010). Ed Tech Experts Choose Top Tools.  T.H.E. Journal ,  37 (7), 32-37. So After reading my first article for class and getting the APA citing done correctly, I went back to the article to start my summary and lost the article... couldn't find it anywhere. So I need some techy advise for the future so this does not happen again. With that in mind, it was a long article and being that we all have busy lives, I chose not to find a another one to to read. So this is all my memory today. The article was basically talking about all the best tools for a the educational field. The article is 8 years old, so it was saying "10 years into a new century we are still working on finding the best tools to accommodate the learners of the 21 century."  I found this kind of interesting being that one of the tools the article discussed was Google docs. Our district just started using google district wide 3 years ago. So it seems to me Ed Tech is si...
